An interview with Will Young, founder of the online private members club: The Lowicks ClubBy HOPP Team
So Will, would you tell us a little bit about yourself?
After almost being written out of the will after deciding not to go to University, I have always wanted to start and run my own successful business. I went straight into the city to work my way up the corporate ladder and learn about “real business” and adopted the hands-on approach to learning. Since the age of 12, I have always had little start ups and they have slowly grown in size and complexity. I am now set on making The Lowicks Club the first real modern adaptation of a physical private club. I am also pretty dyslexic so this article might make for an interesting read...
What first inspired you to start the Lowicks Club?
When I left school and headed straight into work, I felt that there was no helpful network beyond the old school alumni group to provide some of the things you look for and need after school life. I also felt that people who don’t want to share private information publicly would benefit from a secure platform to share helpful information with trusted individuals.
Would you give us an insight into the benefits of becoming a member of the Lowicks Club?
There are 4 main elements of the Lowicks Club app. Firstly, all members have access to our marketplace. Here, members can promote, buy or sell goods and services within the network. From labrador puppies and holiday homes to wanted nannies and rooms to let, the marketplace is a secure way to list items to the "right crowd" without timewasters. Secondly the club has a networking "address book” section which is split into industries. Members are able to scroll through and reach out to one another via the in-app chat feature. The third element is a benefits section whereby we partner with selected businesses and secure bespoke offers and discounts for our members. Finally the fourth element is our partisanship with Tatlocks who provide an exclusive ticket booking service for almost any event in the world.
What would you say makes the Lowicks Club unique to other private membership clubs?
How does one go about becoming a member of the Lowicks Club?
Each new user has to have been invited into the club by an existing member. From our dashboard, we can see when new members have been recommended by existing members and we then approve or decline the application based on a range of criteria. Best to keep that a little confidential.
How do you envisage the Lowicks Club a few years down the line?
At the moment the club is solely digital-based although we have plans to host a pop-up style Lowicks Club at key events in the social calendar. Currently we have just over 3000 members, and we are keen to expand the network as the more members on the app, the more useful it becomes.
We are also always on the look out for new and exclusive partnerships to share with our members and have some exciting new ones going live soon.
